Oberic is one of the 14 Wizards featured in Master of Magic. His default profile is 5 5 Mana Focusing.
Description[]
Oberic is an elementalist, a wizard who comprehensively studies Nature, Chaos, and the yin-yang relationship they exhibit in shaping the world. Unlike the powers of Life and Death, these two realms can potentially be wielded by a single person. Mature elementalists display world-impacting prowess, calling down fire and storms and moving the mountains. Oberic is proudly self-reliant; he can evoke elements flexibly and condense Mana Crystals from them with ease.
Oberic is a male of High Men stock. Diverging from his portrait, his full body cutscene artwork indicates that he has total albinism, with ghostly white skin and hair and red eyes. He wears a yellow wizard robe and a dark green sculpted dragon headpiece.
Playing as Oberic[]
Oberic's portrait may be selected for a custom Wizard when starting a new game at any Difficulty setting above "Intro" in the official game, or respectively "Easy" in the unofficial patches. Selecting either his default profile or his portrait prevents him from being encountered as an opposing Wizard.
Oberic's Default Traits[]
- This profile introduces the Green and Red combination. There are heavy-duty monsters to call forth and very pointed combat spells to throw, and they require financing.
- Mana Focusing makes Oberic more efficient at producing raw Mana, but please note that since research and skill are very critical to development, one should always strive to allocate as little of their precious Power Base to mana as they can. See the strategy section of Mana Focusing for ideas on creative mana generation/saving.
- The default Wizards feature each possible combination of either one solid or two evenly-split Realms of Spellbooks, as per the following table:

Oberic as an Opponent[]
If not chosen, Oberic may appear randomly among the computer-controlled opponent Wizards. Spellbooks and Retorts strongly influence these Wizards' die rolls for AI Personality and Objective. At the "Normal" Difficulty setting and above, there is a 20% chance of either his Nature or Chaos aspects rolling up into a single color. Taking this into account, Oberic's typical traits are predicted below.

Higher difficulties subject a Wizard's default profile to increasingly arbitrary adjustments, including exposure to random Realms and skills. At the "Impossible" setting, be prepared for anything.
Starting Spells[]
At the start of the game, a non-customized Oberic knows all spells specified in the table below. The known spells of a randomly generated opposing Oberic depend entirely on the type and quantity of Spellbooks. For more information see the Wizard article. How many spells are researchable throughout the game depends on this as well.

Trivia[]
- Oberic is based on Elric, the protagonist of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion series (1972). Elric of Melniboné is an albino and likewise described to have a headpiece and yellow robes.
