Oberic is one of the 14 Wizards featured in Master of Magic. By default, he has Icon Nature.png5 and Icon Chaos.png5 Spellbooks at his disposal, as well as the Mana Focusing Retort.

Oberic is a powerful elementalist, wielding earth, water, and fire. He takes pride in self-sufficiency as a Wizard— like his elemental attunement, Oberic's power base has a three-sided countenance: the protection and subtle tools of Icon Nature.pngNature; the brutal fist of Icon Chaos.pngChaos; and his own, innate ability to draw up great amounts of Mana.

Oberic views governance with deep irritation. He is likely to mold his empire into a tool for his magic, whereas more benevolent or power-crazed Wizards could be said to do the reverse.


Playing as Oberic Edit

Oberic's portrait may be selected for a Custom Wizard when starting a New Game at any difficulty setting above Intro. Selecting either the default Wizard or his portrait prevents him from being encountered as an opposing Wizard.

Played on his default spec, Oberic can rapidly uncover the map with his Icon Nature.pngNature assets and make informed early decisions on how to proceed. His ability to follow up on this by amassing Mana for a strong dose of Icon Chaos.pngChaos at early military objectives is his trademark among the default Wizards. Direct mana production through the Icon Power.png Power Base can take a back seat to research and training in many games, but Oberic possesses this skill when it counts, and well before others can move large amounts of Icon Gold.png Gold over through Alchemy or blow up Magical Items they recover from strong lairs.


Oberic as an Opponent Edit

If not chosen, Oberic may appear randomly among the computer-controlled opponent Wizards. Spellbooks and Retorts strongly influence these Wizards' die rolls for personality and objective. At the Normal difficulty setting and above, there is a 20% chance of either his Icon Nature.pngNature or Icon Chaos.pngChaos aspects rolling up into a single color. Taking this into account, Oberic's typical traits are predicted below.

Higher difficulties subject a Wizard's default spec to increasingly arbitrary adjustments, including exposure to random realms and skills. At the Impossible setting, be prepared for anything.

Starting Spells Edit

At the start of the game, a non-customized Oberic knows all spells specified in the table below. The known spells of a randomly generated opposing Oberic depend entirely on the type and quantity of Spellbooks. For more information see the Wizard article. How many spells are researchable throughout the game depends on this as well.
