|Spell Type||Town Enchantment|
Reveals all unexplored tiles up to 5 tiles from the target town.Target town detects any non-Invisible enemy unit approaching to within 5 tiles in any direction.
Nature's Eye is an Uncommon Town Enchantment belonging to the Nature Magic realm. For 75 it may be cast on a friendly town to increase that town's sight range to 5 tiles. The increased sight immediately reveals all unexplored tiles within 5 tiles of the town, and will continuously detect any enemy units within that area as long as the spell is in effect. The spell must be maintained with an Upkeep Cost of 1 per turn.
Nature's Eye increases a Town's sight range to 5 tiles. It both reveals any unexplored lands around the town, and allows spotting any enemy unit approaching to within 5 tiles of that town.
Sight Range Bonus Edit
When Nature's Eye is cast on a friendly Town, that town's Sight Range is increased to 5. This has two separate effects.
For starters, any unexplored tile up to 5 tiles away from the town itself is immediately revealed. Geographical features, enemy towns, and everything else in those tiles will be permanently visible to the casting wizard.
Additionally, while Nature's Eye continues to stay in effect, the town automatically detects any enemy unit or army within its 5-tile sight range. In other words, any enemy unit that is no more than 5 tiles away from the town can be seen by the wizard controlling that town. The only exception are Invisible units, who are not spotted in this manner.
If the spell dissipates, the revealed world tiles remain visible. The town's Sight Range is reduced back to its normal value - whatever it may be at the time - and will now only detect enemy units within that range.
For reference, a 5-tile sight range for a town is a square 11x11 tiles wide, with the town at its exact center. This is almost exactly the entire size of the map screen view.
Nature's Eye may only be cast on the overland map, for the Casting Cost of 75. It must be targeted at a friendly town which does not already have a Nature's Eye spell affecting it.
The spell requires an Upkeep Cost of 1 per turn to maintain. Failure to pay this Upkeep Cost due to lack of Mana will cause the spell to dissipate. However, as long as the spell is paid for (and not dispelled by any rival Wizard), the town continues to enjoy its bonuses.
While the spell is affecting the town, an icon of a tree with an eye in it will be shown on that town's panoramic view window.
If you've placed Nature's Eye on a town, you may remove it by examining the town's details and clicking the words "Nature's Eye" which appear in the town's Enchantments window. The primary reason to do this would be in order to remove the spell's Upkeep Cost, thus conserving Mana for other spells.
Note that Nature's Eye is not cumulative with any other Sight-increasing effects. While may be cast on towns that already have a 5-tile Sight Range or greater, resulting for instance from the presence of an Oracle in those towns, it will simply have no additional effect on them. However, the spell will still be cast "successfully", costing you 75 and drawing its 1 Upkeep Cost at the start of every turn! This is a waste of Mana and should be avoided.
Customized Wizards possessing 11 Spellbooks at creation time may choose this spell as one of their default spells before starting the game, in which case the spell will already be researched and available for casting immediately on the first turn.
Wizards who possess at least 8 Spellbooks, or Wizards with 11 Spellbooks who did not select Nature's Eye as a guaranteed spell, will be able to Research this spell at some point during their campaign. Wizards with fewer than 8 Spellbooks have a random chance of being able to Research it. The chance for this spell to appear increases with the number of Nature Spellbooks the Wizard possesses or obtains during gameplay.
Nature's Eye has a base Research Cost of 350.
With at least 1 Spellbook, the Nature's Eye spell may be acquired as a reward for winning encounters in creature Lairs, Towers, et cetera, or when conquering the Fortress of a rival wizard who has already researched this spell.
Possibly the best use for Nature's Eye is to cast it at towns along your empire's borders. This will allow you to keep an eye on opponents and incoming Neutral stacks without having to send your scouts out and possibly anger your neighbours.
Naturally, any town that is in danger of being attacked can benefit from Nature's Eye, allowing the town's defenders to prepare for any onslaught.
