Klackon Swordsmen are a type of Normal Unit. This unit may be created at a Klackon town, for the Construction Cost of Icon Production.png 40. The town must already contain both a Barracks and a Smithy for this to be possible.

Unlike other Swordsmen, Klackon Swordsmen are a formidable combat unit, capable of taking on most enemy low-tier Normal Units. This is primarily thanks to the Klackon Swordsmen's high Defense score, which allows it to survive serious combat. With Experience, the Klackon Swordsmen's Melee Attack improves and makes them quite deadly to enemies as well. The unit enjoys a Large Shield bonus which gives it even more protection, particularly from Ranged Attacks!

Klackon Swordsmen require an Upkeep Cost of Icon Gold.png 1 and Icon Food.png1 to maintain. Failure to pay these costs will result in the unit being disbanded automatically.

Physical Description Edit

Klackon Swordsmen are a group of bipedal insect-like creatures. They have thick, dark-colored carapaces covering their bodies, forming a natural armor plating that is as strong as steel. They each carry a sword for up-close-and-personal combat, and a large blue buckler which protects them from enemy arrows and other ranged attacks.

Klackon Swordsmen are a Icon MultiFigureUnit.png Multi-Figure unit, containing Icon Figure.png 6 figures when fully healed.

Attack Properties Edit

Klackon Swordsmen use a Icon Melee Normal.png Melee Attack that is somewhat decent - at least against other Normal Units. As they gain Icon Experience.png Experience, this attack can become strong enough to actually threaten the weaker Fantastic Units.

Each Swordsman makes a Melee Attack with a strength of Icon Melee Normal.png 3. With no additional bonuses, this delivers an average damage output of about Icon Damage.png 0.9, so with 6 Swordsmen attacking in unison there's a good chance that several hits will connect - though this is before the target gets to make its Defense rolls to block damage. This attack is useful primarily against lightly-armored units, such as other low-tier Normal Units.

Defense Properties Edit

Thanks to their racial bonus, Klackon Swordsmen possess a Defense score of Icon Defense.png 4 - making them the best-armored Swordsmen in the game, and better armored than most non-Klackon Normal Units to boot. They can block an average of Icon Damage.png 1.2 points of Damage from any attack. This makes it much harder for low-tier Normal Units to kill them.

Furthermore, Swordsmen are equipped with Large Shields. These bestow a Defense bonus of Icon Defense.png +2 against certain types of attack:

  • Icon Ranged Bow.png Ranged Missile Attacks
  • Icon Ranged Boulder.png Ranged Boulder Attacks
  • Icon Ranged Magic.png Ranged Magical Attacks
  • Icon Thrown.png Thrown Attacks
  • Icon Breath.png Breath Attacks

This bonus raises a "Recruit"-level Klackon Swordsmen unit's Defense score to Icon Defense.png 6. Extra Defense blocks more incoming damage, making the Klackon Swordsmen highly resistant to all the above attacks. With Experience, Klackon Swordsmen can easily become very hard to kill at a distance.

On the other hand, as with most Normal Units, each Klackon Swordsman possesses only Icon Hits.png 1 Hit Point. In other words, each point of Icon Damage.png Damage inflicted on this unit will kill off one of its Icon Figure.png figures.

For purposes of defending against Curses and other combat maledictions, the Klackon Swordsmen have a rather-low Resistance score of Icon Resist.png 5 - barely enough to protect them from such effects.

Other Properties Edit

Klackon Swordsmen move at a slow Icon Movement Ground1, and can only traverse land tiles. The unit has no special movement properties.

Basic Strategy Edit

Klackon Swordsmen are a step up from the basic Klackon Spearmen. Stronger on the attack, with the added bonus of resistance to Ranged Attacks and certain Special Attacks, the Klackon Swordsmen can serve as a decent main-line unit, bolstering the strength of larger armies.

Klackon Swordsmen utilize their defensive capabilities to survive even the most gruesome battles. In fact, they can be much harder to kill than other low-tier Normal Units - Klackon Swordsmen are almost evenly matched with Halberdiers. In the early game, a line of advancing Swordsmen is hard to stop, especially with Ranged Attacks. Once they reach the enemy lines, these Swordsmen can start ganging up on enemy units, destroying them one-by-one.

In an empire based mostly on Normal Units, Swordsmen tend to form the majority of armies, especially in garrisons, a good way towards the mid-game.

Acquisition Edit

Klackon Swordsmen may be produced in any Klackon Town.

A town must contain both a Barracks and a Smithy to be able to produce Klackon Swordsmen. Should a town lose an existing Barracks or Smithy, it can no longer produce Klackon Swordsmen until replacement structures are built.

The Construction Cost of this unit is Icon Production.png 40.

Klackon Swordsmen may appear for hire as Mercenaries. They may already have some Experience on being hired, and several units may be hired simultaneously. Hiring these units requires a certain cost in Icon Gold.png Gold that depends on many different factors. Klackon Swordsmen Mercenaries have the same Upkeep Cost as a normally-constructed unit.
