Like all Spearmen, Beastmen Spearmen are a very basic combat unit which don't pose much of a threat to any serious opponent, though they can become a little stronger through Experience. Beastmen Spearmen are twice as expensive as other Spearmen, but make up for this by being inherently stronger attackers, significantly healthier, and slightly more resistant to magic.
Beastmen Spearmen require an Upkeep Cost of only 1 to maintain. Failure to pay these costs will result in the unit being disbanded automatically.
Unit Properties Edit
Physical Description Edit
Beastmen Spearmen are a group of humanoid animals, covered entirely in fur and dressed only in dyed loincloths. They carry spears - long shafts of wood tipped with sharp metal points. These are used for stabbing at enemies within hand-to-hand combat range. Beastmen are physically resilient, stronger than the average human, and their inherent magical nature gives them some protection from ill effects.
Attack Properties Edit
Each Spearman makes a Melee Attack with a strength of 2, thanks to their inherent racial strength. This gives each Spearman an average damage output of about 0.6. This is before allowing the opponent to make Defense rolls to deflect this damage. Therefore the Beastmen Spearmen are likely to cause some damage to lightly-armored opponents, but will struggle to get damage through any serious armor.
Mitigating this slightly, a fully healed unit contains 8 Spearmen, so there are 8 separate chances to inflict damage. This still isn't much, so the Beastmen Spearmen's Melee Attack should not be counted upon to do any significant amount of damage to anything but the weakest enemy units, at least until they gain some Experience.
Defense Properties Edit
The Beastmen Spearmen possess a Defense score of 2 - about the same as their attack score. They can deflect about 0.6 points of Damage from any damage source, on average. This is rarely enough to save them from anything but the weakest attackers.
Beastmen in general are significantly healthier than other Races, giving each Beastmen Spearman 2 Hit Points - twice the health of low-tier Normal Units. In other words, it will take two points of Damage to kill off one Beastmen Spearman.
With these extra Hit Points, Beastmen Spearmen will last much longer in battle than their counterparts from other races. They will still struggle to prevent damage from getting through their armor, however.
Other Properties Edit
Basic Strategy Edit
Beastmen Spearmen are the most basic (and weakest) Normal Unit available to the Beastmen race. Still, thanks to their racial bonuses, Beastmen Spearmen are significantly more dangerous than most other Spearmen. They are primarily useful for taking on enemy low-tier Normal Units, but unfortunately will struggle to pierce any decent amount of armor.
Nonetheless, extra Hit Points make this unit very resilient to damage, allowing it to survive longer during combat. It can stand up well to other low-tier Normal Units, and is much more likely to survive combat overall.
A horde of Spearmen can gang up on a stronger unit in order to whittle it down. Fortunately, Beastmen Spearmen are rather cheap to produce, and thus hordes of them are not too difficult to acquire.
Ability Overview Edit
The Beastmen Spearmen unit has no abilities listed in its unit details panel. It has to rely only on its primary combat properties during battle.
Experience Table Edit
The following table illustrates how Beastmen Spearmen improve as they gain Experience. Any properties that are not listed here do not improve with Experience in any way.
|Level Icon||Level Name||EP||Melee||To Hit||Defense||Resist||Hits|
|Recruit||0 - 19||2||30%||2||5||2|
|Regular||20 - 59||3||30%||2||6||2|
|Veteran||60 - 119||3||30%||3||7||2|
Average Damage Output Edit
The table below details the average amount of damage that each Figure in a Beastmen Spearmen unit will deliver with each type of attack, based on Experience Level. It can be used in comparison to the target's Defense rating to figure out the chance of hurting that target.
The Construction Cost of this unit is 20.
Beastmen Spearmen may appear for hire as Mercenaries. They may already have some Experience on being hired, and several units may be hired simultaneously. Hiring these units requires a certain cost in Gold that depends on many different factors. Beastmen Spearmen Mercenaries have the same Upkeep Cost as a normally-constructed unit.
