Beastmen Halberdiers are a type of Normal Unit. This unit may be created at a Beastmen town, for the Construction Cost of Icon Production.png 80. The town must already contain an Armory for this to be possible.

Like all Halberdiers, Beastmen Halberdiers are a main-line defensive unit, capable of holding its own in a fight with other Normal Units, especially after gaining some Experience. Beastmen Halberdiers are twice as expensive as other Halberdiers, but make up for this by having increased attack strength, doubled Hit Points for better survivability, and slightly higher Resistance. This makes Beastmen Halberdiers both inherently powerful and somewhat difficult to kill.

Beastmen Halberdiers require an Upkeep Cost of Icon Gold.png 2 and Icon Food.png1 to maintain. Failure to pay these costs will result in the unit being disbanded automatically.

Unit Properties Edit

Physical Description Edit

Beastmen Halberdiers are a group of humanoid animals, covered entirely in fur and dressed only in dyed loincloths. They carry halberds - long poles topped with large axe blades and spikes, used either for stabbing or for hacking at enemies while fending them off. Beastmen are physically resilient, stronger than the average human, and their inherent magical nature gives them some protection from ill effects.

Beastmen Halberdiers are a Icon MultiFigureUnit.png Multi-Figure unit, containing Icon Figure.png 6 figures when fully healed.

Attack Properties Edit

Each Beastmen Halberdier makes a Melee Attack with a strength of Icon Melee Normal.png 5. With no additional bonuses, this delivers an average damage output of about Icon Damage.png 1.5, so with 6 Halberdiers attacking in unison there's a good chance that several hits will connect. This attack is dangerous to most enemy Normal Units, can potentially wipe out a lightly-armored enemy, and is dangerous even to enemy low-tier Fantastic Units.

With additional Experience, the Beastmen Halberdiers' attack can become even more threatening, to the point where this unit can damage or kill enemy low-tier Fantastic Units quite well.

Defense Properties Edit

The Beastmen Halberdiers possess a Defense score of Icon Defense.png 3 - just slightly better than the average for Normal Units. They can deflect about Icon Damage.png 0.9 points of Damage from any damage source, on average. This can reliably fend off some damage from enemy Spearmen or Swordsmen, but is unlikely to stop any serious attack.

Beastmen in general are significantly healthier than other Races, giving each Beastmen Halberdier Icon Hits.png 2 Hit Points - twice the health of low-tier Normal Units. In other words, it will take two points of Icon Damage.png Damage to kill off one Beastmen Halberdier.

With these extra Hit Points, Beastmen Halberdiers will last much longer in battle than their counterparts from other races. They will still struggle to prevent damage from getting through their armor from serious attacks, but can at least weather it very well.

For purposes of defending against Curses and other combat maledictions, the Beastmen Halberdiers have a rather-low Resistance score of Icon Resist.png 5 - barely enough to protect them from such effects.

Other Properties Edit

Beastmen Halberdiers move at a slow Icon Movement Ground1, and can only traverse land tiles. The unit has no special movement properties.

Basic Strategy Edit

Halberdiers are a step up from main-line Swordsmen units. Though Beastmen Halberdiers are twice as expensive as Beastmen Swordsmen, they are both stronger and more durable in Melee combat. Thus, an empire that can afford to build Beastmen Halberdiers will often fill its armies with them as fodder and defensive troops, possibly even replacing the Swordsmen entirely.

Beastmen Halberdiers are often superior in combat to enemy low-tier Normal Units. Though Halberdiers are more vulnerable to Ranged Attacks than Swordsmen, and will still suffer casualties in almost any fight, they deliver a hefty amount of damage to their opponents and can occasionally wipe an enemy unit out with one attack.

Beastmen Halberdiers can band together with other Halberdiers or Swordsmen to take out a stronger enemy unit, up to and including low-tier Fantastic Units. Again, expect casualties among the ranks even if you do win the fight. Nonetheless, extra Hit Points make this unit very resilient to damage, allowing it to survive longer during combat. It can stand up well to other low-tier Normal Units, and is much more likely to survive combat overall.

Ability Overview Edit

The Beastmen Halberdiers unit has no abilities listed in its unit details panel. It has to rely only on its primary combat properties during battle.

The following table illustrates how Beastmen Halberdiers improve as they gain Experience. Any properties that are not listed here do not improve with Experience in any way.

Average Damage Output Edit

The table below details the average amount of damage that each Icon Figure.png Figure in a Beastmen Halberdiers unit will deliver with each type of attack, based on Icon Experience Level.png Experience Level. It can be used in comparison to the target's Defense rating to figure out the chance of hurting that target.

Acquisition Edit

Beastmen Halberdiers may be produced in any Beastmen Town.

A town must contain both an Armory to be able to produce Beastmen Halberdiers. Should a town lose its Armory, it can no longer produce Beastmen Halberdiers until a replacement structure is built.

The Construction Cost of this unit is Icon Production.png 80.

Beastmen Halberdiers may appear for hire as Mercenaries. They may already have some Experience on being hired, and several units may be hired simultaneously. Hiring these units requires a certain cost in Icon Gold.png Gold that depends on many different factors. Beastmen Halberdier Mercenaries have the same Upkeep Cost as a normally-constructed unit.
